 The search for life’s essential meaning
is found in reflection and prayer.
One cannot live a true humility spirit without a deep sense of honesty before God and one another. That relationship with God is expressed beautifully in the Magnificat, the prayer sung by the young pregnant Mary when she is welcomed for a visit to the house of her cousin Elizabeth.
In her song of praise for God’s miracle in her life, Mary reminds us that God accepts us as we are; there’s no need to pretend to be somebody we’re not. Great things can happen to even the “least among us” because God’s ways are different than humankind’s.
Not surprisingly, the Magnificat is the community prayer of the Sisters of Humility. There are many translations of this prayer and many interpretations of the Magnificat in poetry, song, and art.
