Volunteer Volunteer Seeds of Hope:

Sharing ministry . . . Sharing hope . . .
Sharing life

Voluntary service to those in need is the goal of Seeds of Hope, the volunteer program of the Humility of Mary community. Participants range from high school and college students to retired couples, but all share a commitment to serve “the least among us.”

As a Seeds of Hope volunteer, you will extend the reach and service of the Sisters of Humility in ministries that promote care of the earth, justice for all and unity among those in need. Depending on your talents and skills as well as the greatest need during your time of service, you may be working with:
  • the homeless
  • migrant workers and families
  • recent immigrants and refugees
  • the elderly
  • single mothers and their children
Share your time Share your time, share your talent, share yourself
Types of placement include social work, education, community outreach, homeless services, gardening and housing construction as well as inner city neighborhood and parish ministries. Potential sites include CHM ministries in Iowa, Montana, West Virginia, Kentucky and Mississippi.
Time commitment is based on the individual’s availability, from a few weeks to a year or more.

Opportunities for prayer, reflection and sharing with other volunteers and members of the Humility community provide spiritual grounding along with a deep understanding of the power of one person to effect change in the world. You do not have to be Catholic to participate but a general commitment to principles of ministry and service, shared by many faiths, is expected.

Grow in your own Spiritual Journey
Grow in your own Spiritual JourneyIt is one’s own personal transformation that is often cited by volunteers as the most memorable aspect of time spent as a Seeds of Hope Volunteer. Participation nurtures a lifelong commitment to serve others and to work to create a more abundant life for God's people, especially the poor.

Here’s what participants say about their time as a Seeds of Hope Volunteer:
  • “I have grown so much in social justice and peace mainly because of my time with Seeds of Hope . . . I have learned to embrace new challenges and accept that while I cannot change everybody, I can live my life as a reflection of what I believe.”

  • “Almost everyday I am confronted with a situation that I can deal with only because of what I learned in Seeds of Hope. Thank you for sharing yourselves with me and accepting me.”

  • “My goals and expectations were fulfilled beyond what I expected in my service trip to Mississippi . . . the team welcomed me and made me feel right at home.”
