We begin with quiet music playing for 10 minutes before we begin. The pianist will open the service by playing the opening refrain 2-3 times, then we have a prayer said together with some quiet time following. Then the pianist will begin the second refrain, done slowly and reflectively. An antiphonal reading of 2 sides is done after the refrain. As we sit in quiet, someone begins to light everyone’s candle, which is held through the next song and readings. With a refrain being sung, we bring forward our lighted candles and put them in a pot of sand. This is done quietly and reverently. We then sit in silence for 10 minutes watching the light of the candles and letting the Spirit speak to our hearts. More prayers and songs are said when the silence is brought to a close. The quiet and responses of prayers and songs brings the participants into a reflective/prayerful mood, so when we finish we leave in a prayerful mode.
