Seeing with Awe and Wonder

In the photograph at right are two of my four photos that were on display at the Bettendorf library. My reasoning for submitting pictures for the display, sponsored by the Riverbend Photo Video Club, was four fold:  first, the opportunity to display my work, second, I am a member of the club which strongly believes in giving back to the QC community, third, an educational opportunity for me to learn from other members and fourth, to showcase God's beauty at Our Lady of the Prairie Retreat, a ministry of the Congregation of the Humility of Mary, of which I have been a member for over 40 years.

A little humility, well maybe, my photos were situated among some of the best professional and non-professional photographers of the QC area.

On Thursday, May 30, 2019 the Riverbend Photo Video Club took on the task of taking photos of over 100 veterans who flew out of the Quad City International Airport on their way to Washington DC on the second Honor Flight of 2019. Our duties at 5:00 am were to greet the veterans, help them look their best in their photo and capture the moment. These photos were processed throughout the day and as the vets stepped off the return flight in the afternoon they received their photo from earlier in the day.

The morning was full of excitement as the veterans looked forward to the day's events and the sharing of their experiences serving our country. As a member of the photo club it was an honor to bring joy to their faces. Plus, it was another opportunity to work with and get to know members of the club. We shared the moment of seeing with wonder and awe the images of the morning. These veterans served us in the Korean and Vietnam wars, now we serve them.
