You Gotta Have WiFi

"Aureon Provides Quality Charity Grants to Iowan Communities." This is the headline of a press release that landed on my desk last week. It was announcing that one such grant had been awarded to Our Lady of the Prairie Retreat, which is a ministry of the Congregation of the Humility of Mary. Applause!

In the release I learned that Aureon created the grant program in 1993 to increase service and support to rural independent telecommunications companies and the communities they serve. Over the course of 12 years, Aureon has donated over $850,000 to local communities."We believe in rewarding various organizations for their passion and dedication to advancing their own neighborhoods." In addition, F&B Communications, Inc., the local service provider for The Prairie, matched the $500 grant.

Well that makes me VERY happy to see companies doing good things for others. And even happier since The Prairie Retreat is now able to upgrade systems at the retreat center. Even though we like people to come to get away from it all (there are no TVs or phones in the sleeping rooms), the demand was strong  to add WiFi that is fast. YAY!

Those who haven't visited The Prairie Retreat are missing something special. I've been there several times now on an overnight retreat with a group of communications directors who work together on regional marketing plans. Some brilliant ideas have come to us during our time there!

One of the best ways to experience The Prairie Retreat is to attend the Spirit of the Prairie - our 6th annual fundraiser. You get tours of the buildings and prairie, amazing local organic food, entertainment and this year a new silent art auction where you can meet the well-known local artists who have donated their work.

Or contact The Prairie Retreat for a chance to walk the grounds or book a time for a personal or group retreat.

We so appreciate others who do good things. Please do something good for us by sharing this blog and spreading the word. Thanks!
