Busy Student Retreats

Lynn Mousel News

CHM sisters have been involved with busy student retreats for a number of years, and I feel blessed to continue the tradition. During the week long retreat students continue the activities of their daily lives, and in addition set aside time for daily prayer and meeting with a spiritual guide. At St. Ambrose University in Davenport, one retreat each semester is coordinated by Campus Ministry. Along with priests and religious from other communities, I have been participating as a spiritual guide.

It has been a gift to journey with each of my assigned students for a week. They come from a variety of religious and spiritual backgrounds, although most are Catholic. I am challenged by their questions and inspired by their commitment to their faith lives. They face the challenge of juggling classes, work and relationships and still find time to devote to prayer and reflection. Young adulthood is an exciting and sometimes uncertain time as they have increasing independence and face life decisions. My hope and prayer is that the retreat opens a space for them to explore and listen to God’s call in their lives.
